Shimmers & Shapeshifters

The Shapeshifters are Shimmers and Werecreatures. There are two main ways this occurs that is the key to which is which. There is " Out of body shifting " and " Altered State shifting." A shapeshifter is someone who can transform themselves into an animal form either mentally (Shimmers) or physically (Werecreature). The Werecreatures is a symbiotic relationship. There is no seperating man from animal. Shapeshifters are also said to be maintainers of balance between the physical world and the spiritual world. They are called P-shifting for physical and M-shifting for mental. The two types of shapeshifting that occur are changing your light body in the the astarl to power animal and changing your physical form on the earth into an animal. To achieve the latter one you must be very adept in your craft. During certain rituals humans can be possessed by the animal spirit. You may not actually become animal in form but, your human senses of smell and sight will be hieghtened and you will feel and exert a savage power that only an animal can possess. From the beginning of time man has known of his dependence on animal for food and clothing. He knew that thier destinies were linked. Early civilizations such as the Egyptians revered animals as the incarnations of their Gods and Goddessess. Shimmers transformations may be seen as just that a shimmering of the essence of the particular beast they adhere to. Like a transparent vision of that animal that can be seen at certain times in the individual. A Werecreature is a human said to have an animal spirit inhabiting their body. This is what makes their physcial transformation possible. There is definatly more to these individuals than meets the eye. They have an animal side to them in human form, though it may be very subtle you will know. The animal spirits are always present in the humans psyche. The animals serve as guides, companions, protectors, and teachers. Humans are animals, not above, not below, and no matter what we do we cannot change that.

Shape Shifters

Shape shifting is the transformation (mentally or physically) of one's self into an animal. A 'theriomorph' is a shape shifter; a being who can assume an animal as well as a human form.

A spiritual theriomorph is someone who at least sees aspects of animals in his or her personality and actions, and those aspects shape who he or she is. More so in the meaning of a spiritual shape shifter, being able to assume animal as well as human form in spirit (or a mix of the two).

There are two types of shape shifting; changing your light body in the astral to power animal, and changing your physical form on the earth plane into an animal. Perhaps this is where the lycanthropy legend actually began. Very adept shamans are said to be able to change their physical human forms into that of animals.

During certain ritual dances, humans can be possessed by the animal spirit. Although they outwardly do not become the animal, their body may contort or move in the fashion that the animal is most comfortable. Vocalizations are also heard, such as the cry of the Eagle, scream of the Falcon, etc.

These power dances are not harmful, as long as they are done within some type of sacred circle. Inwardly, the individual melds with the animal. The human's sense of smell or sight may be heightened, there could be increased dexterity in the limbs, or a feeling of savage power that the animal may represent.

Depending on animals for food and fur for warmth, primitive man knew that his destiny was linked with that of the beasts. His almost religious fascination with the creatures he hunted is evidenced by cave drawings found as far apart as France and Australia.

Many early civilizations revered animals as the incarnation of gods; in ancient Egypt, for example, both the cobra and the cat were objects of worship. It is not surprising that stories of humans turning into beasts, has become deeply ingrained in the popular imagination. Often such metamorphoses are associated with fear and terror.

In central and eastern Europe, for example, a belief in the bloodsucking vampire that condemns its victims to a living death has persisted into the 20th century.

In West Africa until recently, members of a secret society called the Leopard Men believed that simply wearing the leopard's distinctive spotted skin would magically imbue them with that animal's fearsome strength.

Shimmers

Shimmers, for want of a better term, describe an unusual change whereby a person can be seen to transform into an alien or other creature. The term is becoming more used these days by UFO and Paranormal researchers as the old term, known as a Transfiguration.

The disturbing thing for some people who experience the Shimmer effect is that sometimes they do know that they have appeared briefly as an alien and do not claim or admit to being aliens. The effect seems external and not something the person can identify with. In other cases however there have been reported Shimmers by people who do indeed claim to be aliens as we shall hear later. For some people the resultant effect of seeing such a transformation can be the undeniable proof they require of the subject of UFO's.

Werecreatures

Originally labeled "lycanthropes" of all different varieties and origins, taxonomists have recently relabeled the uniquely cursed creatures away from the common term, except where that still applies exclusively to wolflike hybrids. Therianthropic creatures (simplified to werecreatures) and their kin can be found all over the Inner Sea region, most just as dangerous as the next.

There are three steps to the bloodline of a werecreature:

  • True: Those "true" werecreatures that are born with the curse. This curse cannot be removed.
  • Afflicted: Those werecreatures that receive their curse through transmission. This curse can be removed if caught before the afflicted creature's first transformation.
  • Beastkin: Those half-werecreatures, the offspring of either type of were-creature parent and an un-cursed creature. Beastkin are as reviled as true werecreatures in some areas, despite their inability to transmit the curse to any other individuals, although this is not universally true.

The following is a short list of commonly recognized werecreatures around the Inner Sea:

  • werebear
  • wereboar
  • werecrocodile
  • werehouse
  • wereraptor (bird of prey)
  • wereraptor (dinosaur)
  • wererat
  • wereshark
  • weretiger
  • werewolf
